Preface#
On August 1st, I found a Mac Book in the small compartment of our house, a 2014 Mac Book that was purchased. I wanted to see if it could start up normally, but I found that it couldn't, so I wrote this article.
Preparation#
I plan to fix it and use it for typing. This Mac should be capable of typing. In order to run smoothly, I selected an SSD hard drive from a group of hard drives that supports installation. This hard drive is a 1TB SSD from the Kingston NV1 series. However, for the 2014 model of Mac, you need an adapter card to replace the hard drive (note! Replacing the hard drive requires power off). It is said that this machine supports Big Sur, but I think it's not necessary to upgrade such an old machine, so I installed High Sierra 10.13.6. Apple's official website has detailed instructions on how to create a bootable macOS installer. How to create a bootable macOS installer
Start the repair#
First, disassemble the machine. Remember to save the data before disassembling. This machine doesn't have any important data, so I disassembled it directly. Also, remember to turn off the power.
Then replace the hard drive. Remember to connect the hard drive with the adapter card and insert it into the M.2 slot. Check if the power connection is good, and then cover the back cover. Take out the newly created Mac OS boot disk, insert it into the USB port, and press and hold the Option key when starting up until the boot disk appears. Use the up or down arrow keys to select the boot disk, and then press the Return key to enter the "Utilities" window. Select "Install macOS" and then click "Continue" and follow the instructions on the screen. It may prompt that it is damaged? Make sure it is in a disconnected state, then open the terminal and enter the following command to continue the installation.

After the installation is complete, activate the network connection, configure the daily software you use, and you're done.
User experience#
Overall, the user experience of Mac OS is still good (except for the limited variety of games). It can basically meet daily needs, and the experience will be better when used with iPhone/iPad. As for High Sierra 10.13, most of the software provided by the App Store can still be installed, and the user experience of certain software on Mac is even better than that on Windows (I won't say who it is). If you want to use it for typing or programming, Mac may be your best choice.
